Mandarin fish in Bali
Where to see them in Bali?
The best spot is a little bay in-between Pemuteran and Menjangan in the north of Bali, where the local clubs have named a dive site Mandarin point.
The legendary Mandarin fish from the Callionymidae family. The name of this fish comes from the very colourful silks of the country of the rising sun of the 19th century. Strongly resembling gobies, they are often called mandarin goby fish. Hard to find because of their small size, 6-7 cm, this species like to take shelter in dead coral and only emerge at the setting of the sun.
The patterns of each fish, red, blue, yellow and green are unique and are as specific as a finger print for a human.
