Diving Bali in Tulamben is the best way to get to explore the best and easiest dive sites in Bali.Tulamben is a village by the sea in the north-east of Bali. It is located 2 hours from Sanur and offers a comparatively arid landscape. The scenery consists of pebbles and black sand from Mount Agung coming from the eruption of the volcano in 1963.

Tulamben Area Dive Sites
USAT Liberty Wreck
The USAT Liberty is a 120 meter long cargo ship built in 1918 in New Jersey (USA.) It was requisitioned by the U.S. Army during World War II. Thus, this ship was armed with 2 canon: one big gun in front and one small gun in the back. During its final trip, the ship was hit by 2 torpedoes from a Japanese submarine on June 11, 1942 as it was crossing the Straits of Lombok. It was towed towards Singaraja, but was taking on too much water so it was stranded on the beach of Tulamben after being emptied of its cargo. It stayed on the beach from 1942 to 1963 when the earthquake that caused the eruption of Mount Agung made the ship slide into the sea. Bali has been home to this wreck for more than 40 years and it is a pleasure for us to dive this site with you.
The wreck, one of the most famous sunken ship in the world is located 40 meters from the edge of Tulamben beach. We dive from the shore, 6-28 meters depth in water with a temperature of 30°C. This site is accessible to divers of all levels. You can meet giant barracudas, pygmy seahorses hiding in the colourful sea fans, groupers, batfish, angelfish, humpback parrotfish, carrangues bench, black tip and white tip sharks. If you are very lucky, you may even encounter a whaleshark or a mola mola.
The wreck is a paradise for naturalists, photographers, night and wreck divers. It is rated by National Geographic as the best wreck dive in South East Asia
We offer regular night dives at this amazing spot. It is known as one of the best macro night dive sites in Bali. You will be able to find dozens of species of shrimp, crabs, and schools of humped head parrotfish sleeping inside the wreck. You will see barracudas, groupers and red snappers hunting in the light of your dive torch. Our experienced Divemasters are constantly discovering new species, nearly every month!

The Liberty offers various dive profiles, from beginner divers to specialist that are many ways to explore this historical wreck:
- Open Water Diver: 4 Swim-throughs that are wide with sunlight and open access.
- Advanced Open Water: 5 Small swim-throughs (small entrance and exit).
- Wreck Diver Specialist: 3 Caves and fully enclosed areas (reel and flashlight required)

USAT Liberty Wreck (Night Dive)
One of our customers’ favorite dive, for numerous reasons. Of course there are all the classic experiences you might expect when you do a night dive in South East Asia such as phosphorescent plankton shining and coral spawning, but there is also much more:
- Shoals of spotlight fish hiding in the depth of the wreck.
- Visit the wreck’s electric clams.
- Large grouper and red snapper hunting .
- Humphead parrotfish sleeping in the cargo hold.
- Lots of macro life such as decorator crabs and numerous shrimp.
- Get a chance to dive with Spanish dancers, the biggest nudibranch in the world.

The Drop Off
The drop off in Tulamben is a popular dive site. Descending from 3 meters to 70 meters deep, it was formed by the casting of lava and is covered with a multitude of corals, giant barrels, sponges and sea fans. You can encounter black tip sharks, dog tooth tunas, rays, wrasses and parrotfish. The coral here is very healthy and you can observe many nudibranchs and reef fish. It is accessible to all levels of divers and snorkelers.

If you have already enjoyed these two previous sites, many other dive sites are accessible by Jukung (small fishing boat) such as Alam Anda, Batu Kelebit, Secret Cave, Kubu and many other secret sites.
Tulamben’s Coral Garden
A shallow site situated in one of the richest areas of Tulamben. Here you will see leaf fish, ribbon eels, reef fish, oriental gatrins, ludgians, triggerfish, shrimp, comatulas, octopi, nudibranchs, and sometimes black and white tip reef sharks. This magnificent coral reef offers you different varieties of clown fish hiding in the anemones (white, green and blue) and is accessible to all levels of divers and snorkelers.
Located only a few hundred meters from our resort, the coral garden is an ideal site for both new and experienced divers. One of our staff favourite site in northern Bali, the garden offers an amazing opportunity to check out healthy natural coral and newly created man-made coral. Only 30 meters from the shore, there is a wire-frame plane home of a Leaf Scorpion fish.

Seraya Secrets Night Dive
Seraya is a very famous dive site for macro (muck diving); over the years photographers gather there to capture rare creatures, such as the famous harlequin shrimp. We enjoy this site for both day and night dives, but don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself.
Macro Secret Location
The site located within a 15 minutes drive from Tulamben is the owner’s favorite dive site, recommended for experienced divers who enjoy rare small marine animals. You have good chances to see gostpipe fish, if you are lucky you will also see some leafpipe fish, nudibranchs, vanilla shrimp, tiger shrimp, and harlequin shrimp. This is one of the top dive sites in Bali.
Secret Wall and Canyon
Located within a 10 minutes drive from our resort, the sites offers the finest coral reefs of the area. Caves, walls and a canyon are also found at this dive site. Very impressive sponges, sea fans, and the Menjangan National Park wall. Why not spend a few days exploring this lively dive site.
Dives described above can only be done if you stay in Tulamben overnight and take one of our multi-dive package. Due to the advanced nature of these sites, we will first offer to take you on a discovery dive to assess your experience and abilities.
