Day 1 : Sorong - Waisai

The adventure starts with your pick-up from Sorong Airport or your hotel, the crew will transfer you to the vessel located in Waisai harbor. Once arrived, you will be offered a welcome drink and right after your check-in, we will lift the anchor. You will have enough time to unpack, set your gear and socialize with others. You will spend your first dinner and night on board.

Day 2 : East Dampier Strait

South Waigeo, Gam Island and the Dampier Strait are a renowned area of Raja Ampat. The Dampier Strait is full of an amazing marine diversity due to the rich currents going through this area. We will start with diving on the East side of the passage at Blue Magic which is an incredible dive site and the best to start your dive liveaboard. In the afternoon, we will go diving to Sardine Reef and Kap Kri where we will have the chance to see some big pelagic! At the end of the day, we will drop the anchor in Yenbuba bay where we might have the time to take a small walk in the streets of this authentic village toward the church.

Day 3 : Mansuar Island

The small village of Saundarek is located on this island but it does not change the fact that this is one of the most abundant area in marine life. We will go diving in the waters from this village and discover the Napoleon wrasse, barracudas and reefs sharks that swim in the area… Later, we will have few opportunities and will decide the dive sites according to the conditions but the idea is either to go diving with Manta rays at Manta Ridge, in the incredible Coral Garden of Mayhem or in Cytrus or Yeben Kecil… Many wonderful dive sites full of diversity. At the end of the day, we will have a tasty BBQ party on Yeben beach!

Day 4 : Pianemo Island

Early in the morning, we will arrive at Pianemo and go dive on its famous Reef where you will enjoy one of the largest populations of pelagic in the area. This site is very impressive, especially when the current is strong, when you can see the most of it. After breakfast, we will go dive on Melissa’s Garden, the most well-known site in the region, famous for its impressive and healthy hard coral reefs. Then, we will dive in Galaxy dive site which offer a large reef with abundant marine life. In the afternoon after your third dive, we will take you to Penemu Island where you can walk up to the famous viewpoint above Pianemo’s star-shaped lagoons. You will also have time to kayak and paddleboard amongst the incredible karst limestone landscape before sunset, dinner and night on board.

Day 5 : Wayag archipelago

Early morning, we planned to do a small trekking to the top of mount Pindito where an astonishing view is waiting for you, probably the best panorama you ever seen… After that, we will organize a dive in the waters next to this island where diversity is optimum. In the afternoon, we will go cruising between the islets with the speed boat and you will be offered to go diving, kayaking or paddling around this wonderful area. Few viewpoints are not to be missed!

Day 6 : Wohof Island

We will drop the anchor in front of this paradisiac island where white sand beach meets walls and stunning corals. We will go diving on the epic site of Edy’s Black Forest, black corals cover this reef with exceptional macro and don’t forget to look around to spot the schools of Trevally… We will also dive on Wofoh wall which is a gentle drift dive that allows you to examine the multicolor corals and the beautiful macro within the rocks: nudibranchs, crabs, shrimps are everywhere in the wall, just look around you to not miss anything!

Day 7 : Dampier Strait

Today is a special day as we need to schedule the dives according to your return flight. Anyway, most probably, we will be able to admire Wobbegong sharks in Mioskon and we will take you to Cape Kri where a record of 374 fish species identified during a 90-minute dive! A muck night dive awaits you at Yenbuba Jetty where we can find bobtail squid, octopus, stargazers, ghost pipefish, toadfish and lots of nudis. Plenty of activities

Waigeo offers several attractions while experiencing its untouched wilderness: great treks, forests, large rivers, rock islands, an interior jungle, waterfalls, lakes, scenic bays, amazing dives, snorkeling, stunning beaches with white sand and crystal clear water, birdwatching, and many others, which show the versatility of this island. The island has a rocky and generally steep coastline and its central areas are mountainous, rising up to 1,000 meters, with hot and humid weather on the coastal fringes and cool inland.

Underwater & inland

One of the main attractions in this part of the world is scuba diving as well as snorkeling, with an unbelievable amount of marine life. Very good snorkeling can be found near the beaches of Wasai, but even better places are in West Waigeo, since that part of the island is more uninhabited, therefore it is unlikely to run into other day travelers. You will dive with thousands of colorful fish and stunning coral reefs, white tip reef sharks as well as the black tip reef sharks, a huge variety of nudibranch species, sea dragons, blue-striped flagtail pipefish, pygmy sea horses, green sea turtles, giant napoleon wrasse, and Indian lionfish and many small fish living in corals and sea fans. This beautiful island is also an excellent place for underwater photography, due to its bio-diversity and exotic sea creatures.

Travel inland is also a smart decision. You will see several authentic villages, ancient cultural sites, and you will be able to experience unbelievable fully supported trekking routes through the jungle. Waigeo is covered with lush tropical forests rich in birdlife, it is home to the Red Birds of Paradise and the iconic Wilson Birds of Paradise, together with unique mammals like the Waigeo Cuscus, opossums, snakes, tortoises, frilled and giant monitor lizards, plumed herons, honeyeaters and fascinating insects, reptiles and plant species.

The beauty of Mayalibit Bay

Another major highlight of Waigeo island is Mayalibit Bay, a breathtaking bay, which separates Waigeo island into two parts – the main Waigeo and the untouched wilderness of the West Waigeo. A journey across this bay, will take you to dazzling mountain peaks and wild jungle, where you will encounter many unique birds, animals and plants that are endemic to Waigeo. There are hiking lodges and trekking trails that provide a better access to the interior wonders.  It is a nutrient-rich bay with plenty of fishes. It is also home to a school of unidentified species of white dolphin, alongside saltwater crocodiles. The area is an important cultural and spiritual area for the indigenous Mayan people, the original inhabitants and traditional owners of Waigeo.
